Good evening and welcome to the 9th Zimbabwe National ESG Awards 2025! It is an honor to stand before you today as the Executive Director of ESG Network Zimbabwe, a platform dedicated to promoting excellence in Environmental, Social, and Governance practices across our nation.
As we gather in celebration of our collective achievements, I want to begin by expressing my gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering commitment to sustainable development. Your efforts not only shape the present but also lay the groundwork for a brighter, greener, and more equitable future for Zimbabwe and the generations to come.
Tonight, we recognize not just individual brilliance but a collective mission — a mission to integrate responsible business practices that honor our environment, uplift our communities, and foster transparent governance. In every submission we have received, we see the seeds of innovation and resilience that are essential for navigating the complexities of the modern world.
Over the past year, we have witnessed a remarkable shift in how organizations operate. More and more, businesses are aligning their strategies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and recognizing that profitability and sustainability are not mutually exclusive. This evolution is not merely a trend; it is a necessity. It is an acknowledgment that our compass must be guided by the principles of sustainability and responsibility.
To our nominees, you embody the spirit of this change. You have demonstrated that success can be achieved while prioritizing the well-being of our planet and our people. Your initiatives, whether in renewable energy, community engagement, or ethical governance, serve as beacons of hope and inspiration for others. You remind us that we can forge a pathway to success that does not compromise our values or our environment.
Let us also take a moment to acknowledge the challenges that remain. The road to sustainability is not always smooth, and the stakes are high. Climate change, social inequality, and governance challenges require our immediate attention and collective action. It is clear that our work is far from over. We need to continue to foster dialogue, share best practices, and support one another as we strive toward a more sustainable Zimbabwe.
You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today. Let me hasten to say, the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams as what we are doing now will have a huge impact on our future.
As we celebrate the achievements of this evening, let us remember that these awards are more than just accolades. They are a commitment to action. As Helen Keller said, ‘Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.’ Let us be inspired to come together, supporting one another in our journey toward sustainability.
As we look to the future, I am excited about the prospects for ESG in Zimbabwe. We have a unique opportunity to leverage ESG principles to drive sustainable development, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for all Zimbabweans.
To achieve this vision, we must continue to work together – government, business, civil society, and individuals – to create an enabling environment that supports ESG practices.
We must also recognize that ESG is not a destination, but a journey. It requires continuous learning, innovation, and improvement.
As ESG Network Zimbabwe, we remain committed to supporting this journey. We will continue to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation.
To our award winners tonight, I offer my sincerest congratulations. Your achievements are a testament to the power of ESG to drive positive change.
