Freda Rebecca Gold mine, member of Kuvimba Mining House, is one of the biggest mines in Zimbabwe, operating in Bindura, in the province of Mashonaland central. It is a company that is well known for making headlines in the news by producing over 300kgs of gold a month with its recent record of 311 kgs of gold in June 2021.
The company has not only focused on profit making but has also perceived Corporate Social Responsibility as an opportunity to strive for sustainable business by being responsible over its community and reducing their impact on the environment, hence increasing their business profile.
Though profit making is the main focus for most businesses, FRGM has also seen working with its community to create more success stories. FRGM collaborates with its community to transform and empower them though education health and supporting Small to medium enterprises.
The Mine partnered with Bindura Municipality to address littering and Waste Management challenges in their town by donating 10 litter bins.
FRGM does not only strive for its own success but has stretched out its hand to help other growing businesses by supporting them through giving them work contracts. Below are pictures of Petnorm Pvt Ltd, a local contractor engaged by the mine to build them a new canteen.
In terms of education, FRMG has seized the opportunity by investing immensely in education and supports underprivileged members of the community by providing educational sponsorships, skills training and construction of schools. Pictured below is Reward Chigatse, one of the beneficiaries of FRGM Educational sponsorships. Reward is an orphan and he is doing Lower 6 at Chipindura High School.
FRGM stepped in to manage one of the most notable problems at Chiveso Clinic which was unavailability of clean water. The clinic drew its water from a borehole which they shared with the community and was often vandalized. In order to address the persistent water problems faced by the clinic, FRGM drilled and installed a solar powered borehole for the clinic.
FRGM has been committed to support initiatives that positively impact the communities in which they operate. To ease the water shortages in Batanai village FRGM drilled and equipped boreholes. They also drilled and installed a solar powered borehole at Pimento Park Primary school.
In addition, the mining company donated new born baby clothes, diapers and infant feed to vulnerable mothers at their local hospital to ensure that the babies are fed and kept warm.
