The CSRNZ which turns 5 this year has appointment a new dynamic board led by National Blood services Zimbabwe CEO Lucy Marowa to spearhead its strategic vision which is aimed at focusing the country economic players towards achieving the desired impact of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is also in line with the country’s vision 2030 of achieving an upper middle-income society.
In this regard the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) require changes in attitudes and behaviours as well as innovation, education and clear leadership. But there will also be a huge role to be played by technology, new products and services, new business models to generate sustainable value for consumers, communities and an accelerated focus on partnership and collaboration.
The new board is constituted as below, Board Chair Lucy Marowa, deputised by Wellington Mapedzamombe (Invictus Stockbrokers) and Marjorie Mutemererwa (SeedCo), the other board members are, Chengetai Mujakachi (VIVO Energy), Tsungai Manyeza (Lafarge Cement), Panashe Bwoni (Lawyer), Chido Chizondo (FC Platinum Holdings), Tabeth Melusi (National Foods), Kudzai Mawuwa (Econet Wireless), Michael Munawa (Clean City) and Emily Nemapare (First Capital Bank).za
I am happy that this new board will measure up to our expectations that feed into CSRNZ objective to increase the number of enterprises that recognise and use social responsibility to shape their business strategies in accordance with the principle of sustainable development because socially and environmentally proactive business practices can bring enterprises advantages in the national and international arena. This action plan is setting the stage for all stakeholders to formulate societal aims in a dialogue to ensure conditions that make corporate social responsibility attractive to enterprises and society.
In support of the UN SDGs agenda 2030, CSR Network Zimbabwe is setting the foundations for being the Zimbabwean CSR and Business Hub for the SDGs. Our vision is to inspire, engage and support Zimbabwe enterprises that are volunteering to invest in CSR.
It is against this background that CSR Network Zimbabwe is exploring how Zimbabwe companies can grasp business growth opportunities arising from the SDGs. It’s time to ignite a serious discussion about how companies of all shapes and sizes can play a major role in driving a more sustainable, prosperous and inclusive society while also meeting their corporate goals of generating value and achieving competitive advantage.
Using this Action Plan for CSR, the CSR Network Zimbabwe aims to organise and shape the interaction between the political sector, business, unions and civil society in ways that enable joint solutions to meeting major economic, social and environmental challenges. We are also happy as CSRNZ family for championing the fundamentals of responsible business in Zimbabwe, working with businesses across the country. The CSRNZ does not only provides advice to progressive multinational and indigenous companies but also helps smaller enterprises navigate and understand CSR. We are the trusted advisors on responsible business practices in Zimbabwe. In fact, we have started to assist companies to develop, implement and evaluate their CSR projects as well as assisting them in Developing their Organisational CSR Policies.
