HARARE – More than 70 participants drawn from over 40 companies attended a two-day GRI Sustainability Reporting and Disclosure Training held on 7 and 8 May at the Holiday Inn Harare, reflecting growing interest among Zimbabwean businesses in sustainability and ESG reporting.
The training was organized by ESG Network Zimbabwe Supported by GRI Africa.
The training brought together representatives from small and medium enterprises (SMEs), corporate organizations, sustainability practitioners, and business leaders to strengthen capacity in sustainability reporting and responsible business practices using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards.
During the workshop, participants were equipped with practical knowledge on sustainability disclosure, stakeholder engagement, environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting, and aligning business operations with international sustainability expectations.
Facilitators emphasized the increasing importance of transparent sustainability reporting as investors, regulators, and consumers continue to demand greater accountability from businesses. Discussions also focused on how sustainability disclosures can help organizations improve corporate reputation, attract investment, manage risk, and enhance long-term resilience.
Participants engaged in interactive sessions, case studies, and knowledge-sharing discussions aimed at helping organizations integrate sustainability principles into their day-to-day operations and reporting frameworks.
Speaking during the training, organizers noted that the strong turnout demonstrated a growing commitment by Zimbabwean companies to adopt global sustainability standards and improve transparency in corporate reporting.
The event also provided a networking platform for companies from different sectors to exchange experiences and explore collaborative approaches to sustainability challenges affecting businesses and communities.
As sustainability reporting continues to gain momentum globally, the training marked an important step toward strengthening local capacity and supporting Zimbabwean businesses in embracing internationally recognized reporting standards.
Organizers expressed optimism that the knowledge gained during the workshop would contribute to improved sustainability practices and more credible ESG disclosures across participating organizations.
