Corporate network donates to elderly

A local organisation, Corporate Social Responsibility Network Zimbabwe (CSRNZ), in partnership with several corporates donated food and groceries to the elderly at Bumhudzo Old People’s Home in Chitungwiza on Friday.

The home is run by The Salvation Army and takes care of more than 30 elderly people. Speaking after the handover ceremony, CSRNZ executive director Mr Willard Razawo said the donations are part of celebrating the World Corporate Social Responsibility Day commemorated on February 18.

“Our plan is to go all over the provinces in Zimbabwe during this month of February making donations to the elderly as a way of commemorating World CSR day,” he said.

Their network, he added, had identified social groups in need of assistance and decided to start with the elderly.

CSRNZ chief operating officer Ms Lydia Matengambiri expressed gratitude to all corporates that took part in the initiative.

“We would like to thank corporates that sacrificed their resources, Choppies Zimbabwe, Moonlight Funeral Services, Schweppes Limited Zimbabwe, Irvines, Tendi Safes and Locks, Clean City and Yarn Field Enterprises.

“We would like to replicate the same in Manicaland, Masvingo and Bulawayo provinces, and we strongly urge corporates within those provinces to stand as a united front in collaboration of this good cause.”

She said they were looking for wheelchairs for several elderly people in need.

“We hope to get a few as they are of paramount significance since some of the elderly people are immobile,” she added.
